7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Preliminary task:


I've learnt different shot types and specific shot types that relate to the genre that shows the audience that it's deffinatley that type of film. for example a shot of a weapon is commonly associated with the horror genre. I have also learnt about the positioning of the camera for example the rule of thirds. we used some shots from are prelim film such as the point of view shot and a few low angles which are also common in the horror genre. A lot of the differences shown in the final film is that they are horror specific so would be different to are prelim.
The sound editing of are two films are different as i learnt how to adjust the sound volume at different parts of the film this is different to the prelim as the sound is all at one level.
The editing its self is completely different as there are less jump cuts and more fades to contribute to the representation that it has parts of horror in it. other editing was used such as making a title which we used on Adobe after effects which is completely different to are prelim where we had nothing like that because we lacked the skill to do it.

6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing the product?

Throughout the duration of creating the opening sequence, we have had to use different equipment; this includes: a digital camera, tripod and lights. On top of this, we have had to use websites on the internet such as Youtube and Blogspot. I used YouTube to research horror films and comedies which was an important aspect to making our film as good as possible and of a high quality. We also used it to learn how to use Adobe After Affects, which we needed to make our title seqeuence. To edit our film we used Adobe Premier. Before starting the editing of the opening sequence I already knew the basics to editing, so through using Adobe Premier I learnt how to edit on a more advanced level. An example of what I learnt through using Premier is how to change the colour of the film and how to make it fit to scale.

4 Who would be the audience for your media product

My target audience is both the younger generation, meaning people between 16 & 18, and adults. This means that they may not have a similar taste in aspects such as their choice of clothes shops, favourite type of music and favourite TV programme and film genre.
The younger generation are likely to shop in popular clothing stores such as: JD sports, Topshop/ Topman, New Look and Primark. On the other hand, adults are likely to shop in other shops such as: River Island, Oasis, Zara and supermarket brands such as George.
Their music choices may be similar as they are both likely to listen to music that is in the charts and on TV. With this being said, the younger generation tend to listen to music that isn't streamed in the charts. For example, they may listen to drum and bass, dubstep, house and jungle; this type of music can be found on other websites such as YouTube and Spotify. 
In modern times, a majority of people tend to watch TV programmes and films on demand. Examples of on demand are Netflix, LoveFilm, Sky Movies, apple box and Virgin movies. Their favourite film genre is likely to be comedy, horror or action. An example of horror films they may enjoy are: Scream, The Conjuring, Annabelle and The Grudge. Some comedy films include: American Pie, Just Go With It, Clueless and This Is The End. 

I think that my target audience would watch this film as it appeals to their particular taste and I think they would enjoy watching a comedy horror as it is a hybrid of two of their favourite genres.

3 What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?



Production companies are the companies that produce the movie, they then hire the directors who then hire the cast using the budget of the production company. Examples of production companies are Lionsgate, Warner bros and Columbia pictures. There are more local production companies, such as Film 4 productions which is a British production company who have made films such as the Inbetweeners movie and it's sequel.



Distribution companies are all about raising awareness about a new film or TV program. They do this in a variety of ways. They do this by making film trailers that coincide with the release date of the film. They also book slots on talk shows for the actors to talk about their character in the film and give teasers to the audiences following the film. On top of this they give critics early access to the film so they can write about the film in magazines so if the film is good then it's good advertisement, however, if it's bad then it can affect the sales of tickets to the film. An example of a distribution company is paramount pictures.












Throughout the title sequence, specific job roles are listed, such as producers, directors, actors, editors and more; this is to show the audience the quality of the film as it allows you to see if famous and respected actors are in it such as Micheal Caine, Tom Hanks and Samuel .L. Jackson. If a film stars any of these actors it's usually going to sell out in the box office; this is because they are some of the best actors in the world, however, to get them to star in a film they will need to have their pay requirements met which if a small production company wanted to hire them they would have minimal chance. Only Production giants such as Warner Bros and co can afford these stars. In some cases the use of less well known actors doesn't mean the film will be of a lower quality, for example Robert Pattinson wasn't very well known, but as soon as he starred in Twilight he became known as a famous actor. The reason that the film was popular was because it was based on the Twilight Saga books, which has won many awards, as well as, debuting at #5 on the New York Times bestseller list, which later went to #1.

Shaun of The Dead is a horror comedy film released in 2004 and was distributed by the company Focus Features. In its opening weekend it made $3,330,781 in the US and £1,603,410 in the UK. The films premiere was on March 29th 2004 in London; this then went on to be premiered in September in the USA. Focus Features would be the media institution that would distribute my film as both of these films are horror comedy and would attract the same type of audience.The reason other distribution companies don't distribute these types of films is because they are seen as a risk so they tend to stick to action films as it's safe in comparison as it's in the top 5 of genres watched per year.

2 How does are Production show Representation of social class


Because are production is set in a school the characters have to wear a uniform so it's hard to to show the social class however we managed to add extra into the characters uniform, For example the taller male character is persevered as having a bad reputation as he's wearing black jeans instead of trousers and is wearing a snap back hat.

These Characters are similar to characters in others films such as 'Scouts guide to  a zombie apocalypse'






















The difference between are characters are that are character follow British urban stereo types and these characters follow american stereo types.

The social group of characters is young men who are lazy and useless as shown in the start of the opening when they are in detention. The finally gain some use when something that is incredibly unlikely to happen finally gives them some use. Even though the characters are seen as outlaws in the environment they are given the positive stereotype of 'lovable rogues' where they aren't perfect but they are good and will come through and save the day despite not being how society wants them to be. The characters we made are you're typical British teenage males with comical appeal to fit the genre.

1 in what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?




The title of the of the film- School of brains
setting location- John Cabot academy
Costumes and props- Make up for zombies, ripped tops with red paint for zombies, shirt and trousers for main characters and specific items the characters wear (hat and tie).
Camera work and editing- Used Adobe premier pro and after effects for editing.
For the camera work all basic shot type as well as the rule of thirds and the 180 degree shooting line.
Title font and style- We created the title on Macromedia Fireworks 8.0 and used the internet to help.
Story and how the opening was sets up- At first we decided to do a horror but couldn't be serious so we decided to do a horror comedy of a zombie invasion in a school.
Story - The story is about two young males are in detention but on the day they are in detention a zombie virus has been spreading across the city they live in and has finally reached there school which they are the only two none zombies, The two then have to fight there way out killing teachers and fellow pupils.
Genre-The genre of this is a horror comedy as the way the young males kill the zombies is comical and certain scenes add comedy to the opening.
Special Effects- The special effects we used was to make are title sequence for are production company.

We only used a few horror genre shot techniques as this wasn't specifically a horror film. This film was a sub genre of horror comedy so we replaced tension building shot with comical value to make it obvious to the audience that it was that type of film.
